The theme, shifting from normal soccer to fantasy time travel across various eras, may seem overly fantastical but is executed reasonably well. They neither remember Tenma nor the game of soccer they loved. The soccer club is non-existent, and the members of the champion team in the Holy Road Soccer Tournament have no recollection of taking part in the tournament. Manually select a time region in a linked track, and you’re actually making multiple selections at once, as you’ll see if you attempt to paste the selection into the Session view: multiple clips will appear. Two or more tracks, regardless of type, can be linked so that recording passes, editing and so on take place in all the tracks in parallel at the same time point. But you could use take lanes for manual backups.Ĭomping in the Arrangement view is complemented by another new feature: track linking. More generally, take lanes are not a bulletproof tool to prevent overwriting: if you make manual edits to a clip in the main lane of a track, and then record over that clip, it’s gone. So while input from MIDI controllers will be considered part of a take, automation input (from a Push controller, say, or a MIDI control mapped to a device parameter) will not - it will go into the main part of the track only, overwriting what’s there. It’s worth pointing out that take lanes only capture incoming MIDI or audio, not automation. There’s nothing special about take lanes compared to the main lane of a track: they contain clips, and you can cut, copy, paste and edit Arrangement clips whether they are in take lanes or not. Selection and editing is quantised to the grid by default, as you’d expect, and take fragments are sliced into the track with short crossfades to eliminate clicks or glitches. ![]() Although the obvious use of take lanes is to assemble the best possible track from distinct takes of the same musical phrase or section, there’s nothing to stop you creating takes from completely different material and slicing them together creatively. Once you’ve assembled a number of takes, you can start assembling your final track from them, and there are convenient keyboard shortcuts for selecting regions within takes and copying them into the track. Record over the same part of the track, and the material in the main lane of the track is overwritten, but the old take lane preserves a copy of it.Ī track can now contain multiple take lanes, from which a comp can be made. Start recording, and a new clip is laid down in the track, but a duplicate clip is also laid down in a take lane, which are created as needed. Every Arrangement track accumulates a number of ‘take lanes’. However, something else is going on behind the scenes. ![]() In Live 11, Arrangement recording is always non‑destructive, although at first glance there’s no difference in behaviour compared to Live 10: record a new section of audio, or MIDI, over an old one, and the old one is erased. Record something new, and what was in the track before was lost, at least unless you hit ‘undo’ or reverted to a saved version of the project. In Live 10, recording over material in a track was essentially destructive - just like with tape. Live’s linear Arrangement view now supports comping: multiple takes for a track can be recorded at the same point in a song, and the best parts of each take can then be assembled into the final track. Ableton have also had the builders in to work on the instruments and effects, with some upgrades to existing devices and some intriguing new additions. But this visual similarity hides some significant structural improvements: specifically MPE support, more versatility inside clips and device racks, and multiple take lanes in the Arrangement. This includes self promotion of music.Live 11 introduces new features, improves some old ones, and throws in some exciting new rack devices for good measure.Īs Ableton Live’s release version finally goes to 11 in its 20th year, what improvements, refinements and additions does it deliver? There’s no major visual overhaul as we saw in the upgrade from Live 9 to Live 10, and it’s hard to tell Live 11 visually from its predecessor unless you know where to look. Although this effect is used in custom painting, it’s not a desirable thing to have when trying to match a factory finish.Įvaluate the three dimensions of color. The biggest problem when using tints outside of the original formula is that they tend to cause “metamerism.” This is the term used in the paint industry to describe a finish that changes color, or hue, under different lighting conditions. A lot of tints aren’t designed to be used with each other, and some tints cannot be used in metallics. Never use tints outside of the formula unless your paint supplier has told you that it’s compatible. When tinting your paint, always use tints that are in the original formula. When all else fails (you’ve chosen the proper alternate and are using the proper reducer and gun technique), you’ll need to tint a color to create a match. Color-corrective lighting, a type of light that mimics daylight, will help ensure that you have the proper cast on the vehicle when trying to evaluate a match. Incandescent lights tend to give off a red cast, and fluorescent lights can give off a yellow or blue cast. Many times, a color will appear to match in your shop, but it won’t match in the daylight. You should evaluate all colors in natural daylight. The last variable to consider before attempting to tint a color is your shop’s lighting. If you don’t have enough paint on the vehicle, it won’t match.Įvaluate the color in the right light. A lot of today’s paints are very poor hiders and require a color-keyed ground coat. (Lower pressure = darker bigger nozzle = darker.) The rule of thumb is that if the coats of paint are heavier, the color will appear darker.Īpply enough color use a ground coat when needed. Conversely, if you apply your paint in lighter coats, the paint will appear lighter.Īir pressure and gun nozzle size will give the same result. Heavier coats of paint allow the metallic to sink to the bottom, giving the paint a darker appearance. If you’re spraying a metallic, the heavier you apply your paint, the darker it will appear. Gun technique also determines if you have a match. When spraying a metallic color, a slower-drying reducer will create a darker-looking finish. This ensures that all the tints have been mixed properly.Ĭhoose the right reducer for the air temperature and application. Did you mix all the paint as directed from the manufacturer? Make sure there’s no metallic or pearl left in the bottom of the can.Īgitate the paint for at least five minutes. Mix the proper alternate per the paint manufacturer’s recommendations. These alternate formulas give you a starting point for mixing the proper color.Īre you trying to match a vehicle that’s faded over time? To find out, polish the adjacent panels to make sure they haven’t faded. Most paint companies today offer more than one formula for the same paint code. More than one painter has discovered that he’s mixed the wrong formula, and sometimes this is just a case of reading the paint code wrong. When evaluating a match, make sure you have the right paint formula. So, without any further ado, let’s get started. Whatever the reason for the differences at the factory level, it’s your job to make sure your paint matches as closely as possible to the actual paint on the vehicle. ![]() And these smaller flakes reflect less light, giving the paint a darker appearance. The constant motion causes the metallic and pearl flakes to collide, causing some to get broken into smaller pieces. ![]() This is typically caused by the constant agitation of the paint at the factory. Matching the exact color is especially important when spot repairing.More than likely, you’ve come across vehicles built at the same plant with the same paint code that didn’t match each other or the color chip standard – usually metallic or pearl colors. Even if the color looks close enough, blend it! Remember, you don't want the color of the spot you're repairing to be too light or too dark, and you have a lot of variables to deal with. Always blend the color to achieve a color match.
